LYRICS- (CD-SO FAR FROM HERE)

Calling You Out

Where are we going now and what have we become?

Is it fair to have the children now?

So much rain has fallen

My skin was so thin then

It’s all part of the landscape now

Part of the landscape now

Steal away, I’m a nautilus

Browning I leave the vine now

Cast away on my own accord

A fixture on the mantle

A book that hasn’t yet been read

Is the time right to follow through?

Yes, time for us to follow through

Will we ever be more free than this now?

Will we ever be more free than this?

Will we ever be more free than this now-than this now?

This is me calling you out

This is me calling you out

Windows blown wide open

The thrill of truths finally spoken

My heart races

Then your head against my breast

Will we ever be more free than this now?

Will we ever be more free than this?

Will we ever be more free than this now-than this now?

This is me calling you out

This is me calling you out

Painted Boy

“Captain, my captain,”

He said,  “Come and see”

On his perch above the crew

“The hunt due South, this compass reads”

Out of thirty caught one stood out

He wore the colors of fire, trimmed with gold

The dress would match his angry eyes

A tough price for those, if he is sold

This painted boy from overseas, with his shackles and gown

This painted boy he once was king - now a slave to bow down

Bow down

The rain poured down on that angry night

No star of hope to guide me

The exposed only held their heads and prayed to a god unseen

It was then that the storm overtook me

and dragged me from the wooden wheel

It was by chance my eyes looked up into the ones that I did steal

This painted boy from overseas with compassion-no bounds

This painted boy he rescued me. No more slaves to bow down

This painted boy from overseas with compassion-no bounds

This painted boy he rescued me. No more slaves to bow down

Never Safe

She doesn’t speak in the same place that she lives, loves and breathes

We amble below her

And I can proclaim her to be the finest specimen of ardor today

Flowers bow down before her

Even if I could keep her close at hand-

all my life I could never understand

No I’ve not been her first

Her tongue’s in the heads of men she’ll outlive and never to fade

Power gathers behind her

And so, I concede

My defeat-it’s so empowering

Succumb to her grace

The songs spill out to please her

Some will triumph-some falter

this gilded curse

Music serving only her claim to birth

She’s the one who drives the pen

Leads me on...

I try to pretend I’m free but freedom’s never safe

Even if I could keep her close at hand-

all my life I could never understand

She’s the one who drives the pen

Leads me on...

I try to pretend I’m free but freedom’s never safe

So Far From Here

Sittin’ at the train stop

focused on the raindrops

drumming on my skin

In my mind there’s our steam trunk

The ferry leaves - for just once

you’re with me and we’re miles away

so far from here

so far from here

T.V. murder mystery

Fashion mogul - must see,

but you know that there’s more

Sittin’ here beside you I know the thoughts inside

You’re with me and we’re miles away

so far from here

so far from here

And I know that there will be questions

and they’ll want to know just where we’ve been

But please, dear

Tell me that you’ll keep our secret

so that we can still get miles away

so far from here

so far from here

Lie To Me

Up all night, oh... that talk again

Oh moon, I only see one of her faces

A skeptic and pathetic troubadour at best

I allow my self to be put through her paces

Then why must you lie to me?

You put on that face and you lie to me

A bed of thorns is mine tonight

and with each stinging prick

I grow more sensitive

to my senseless cowering

from your searing lips

The cruelties unceasing

Then why must you lie to me?

You put on that face and you lie to me

As you fall from grace this is goodbye you see

Damn you, you lied to me

Please, lie to me

I need to believe it

Oh please, lie to me

Just like you’ve done before

Oh I’m damned you see - need you to lie to me

Come on

Lie to me

I need to believe it

Ooh please, lie to me

just like you’ve done before

Oh I’m damned you see - need you to lie me

Lie to me.

Once There Was This Girl

Once there was this girl

who knew just when they started going out

When holding hands

made her feel like she just swallowed sunshine

Then there was this boy-

always forgetting plans they’d made

He found himself this day

contemplating just how he’d tell her

that he’d rather be someone else’s

With high school far behind

this girl had written books that took her

far across the world

Paris was where she took root

and resigned to figure out

just where it was she’d gone wrong with him

With that one young boy, she’d never learned to

let go and enjoy the fruits of young love

and it’s holding her heart back now

If there were a time to learn from life’s stumbles and falls

it is now, can you hear me?

Won’t you please just let go

Just let go

Remembering the boy

who’d been the one to change the plot line

no malice in his choice

just following what his young heart told him

Now a dad of five

beautiful portraits of himself and his supportive wife

They’d moved on from love’s first movement back then

and learned to enjoy the fruits of young love

never looking back-

no reason to challenge what’s already done

Don’t hold your heart back

Don’t hold your heart back now

Once there was this this girl

Still there is this boy

Let go

Go on and let go
